Quinn's Gambit.
Ok folks, I know it's been a goood minute since I've posted here. The last post was for AAM Clothing's new tee (which has been doing great and almost sold out btw). The post for the move is long overdue and will be up soon. And overall, my life has changed quite a bit. Before that post however, I wanted to share this piece. Here is the last commission I made in San Antonio before the move. After creating the Introducing Chaos painting, a friend of that buyer loved the work and wanted a piece of her own. Her request was Harley Quinn. Now, it had been some time in my mind that I wanted to paint Harley Quinn so I of course jumped at the opportunity! The passed few months I have found my painting slow down a bit for many reasons, including my returning passion for photography. This piece started off a bit slow but, as usual, once I hit the canvas, it flew out in an exciting burst of inks and acrylics. It felt good to hit the paints again and it felt even better that it was a bigger piece (2'x2'). The request was to include enough of the character to showcase the costume of Quinn. Other than that, I had free reign.
My favorite jobs.
I started by wanting to embody what I feel Harley Quinn to be--a woman with undying love for Mistah J, willing to do anything and do it in a psychotic manner that plays on your idea of clowns and their immature & deceiving nature. I didn't want to include any Joker references however. I wanted this to be pure Quinn. I of course had to include her over-sized gun (the hammer wouldn't fit in this composition) and the overall colors had to be red. Also, I wanted to make this piece a bit more cleaner (visually) than the Joker piece I did to highlight the feminine assets of Miss Quinn. Lastly, this piece was entirely made with brush only (sans the aerosol). This was my choice for no other reason other than to push myself. For those who are familiar with my work, you know how much I love pens and markers for my blacks. So this was quite the challenge and I was really happy with the final result. I can't say I am leaving markers out for good, but it's nice to keep things interesting and stepping out of one's comfort zone to produce results you are usually unfamiliar with.
Overall I had a blast with this piece and the owner loved it. Having recently moved to a new place, I am sure this painting will provide her new home with some fire and female empowerment, as we know every strong man is backed by a strong (and equally insane in this case) woman. Cheers everyone and I look forward to telling you all about the relocation...
Stay Creative,
BLUE731.
