When I showed up to the spot, there were maaad people as expected. I finagled a parking spot (I live too far out to skate there lol) and found a seat. The usual troubleshooting kicked in as they tried to show us this video. It was a no-go so they went straight for the main event. I hadn't seen this one yet and man was I blown away. This is the third premiere I have been to at Cowtown since landing in Phoenix and it was the best one so far. Easily three hundred folks were in attendance. Sk8Mafia delivered and I thoroughly enjoied the hell out of the video. Right around Jimmy Cao's part some serious heat popped off. BOOM. I moved with the quickness to make sure it wasn't our ride that got hit. What sounded like a car wreck right behind me turned out to be a busted back windshield. And some rather angry individuals. Two guys got at each other's faces (literally, they were cheek to cheek haha) and the fuzz showed up. I mean, yo, this boom went off and not even two minutes went by when five-o was in the sky with the ghetto bird and driving through in the blue-and-whites. Everyone's camera phones popped off and the whole thing was shut down. Donezo.
Everyone was still amped up for the product toss though. I got the location from a local out front and proceeded to hit the town. As I drove, the streets were littered with skateboarders of all types. It was easy to find the spot even though I didn't get the name of the place, just directions. I shot some photos from the car on the way since I couldn't roll with anyone. I wanted to skate down there so bad but with all the cops around it didn't seem like a good idea leaving the G-ride behind to maybe catch a towing experience. The sea of people I met as I rolled in was CRAZY big. At the top from the bridge/overpass there were skate decks, shirts, hats, stickers--all types of flavor floating down. I scooped up my own pieces as I continued to let my shutter fly. I handed out my own stickers and headed home after a little bit more of skating.
All in all it was a blast for sure and hopefully the photos do some justice of the amazing time we all had. Props to Cowtown Skateboards, Sk8Mafia, and Phoenix PD for making it one hell of a Go Skateboarding Day--the best I've seen in all my years.
