More Sketchbook Fightclub.

Hey all, here are some pieces I did for Round 4 of SBFC. It's been a fun time and my latest challenge was tough!! This round was inks only and with the growing roster, it was sure to be a fun round. Freddy Lopez--sci-fi and comic geek connoisseur--challenged me openly and fairly. We signed the Death Waiver, chose our topics (he chose clowns, I chose females) and did battle. Now if you are unfamiliar with his work, GET FAMILIAR. Dude is a beast in many media. Hands down one of my favorites here in San Antonio. So I knew I had to bring it.

I initially went to my bread & butter and thought the sexy clown will definitely be a strongpoint for me and give me that edge. Then I thought, "Too easy.", and opted to really push myself. I made one piece, a close-up of a female face. Not too spooky, but not too trustworthy either. I used a water brush to get some really deep value from my inks (I'm not one for much hatching, especially in the female form). After I was done, I still felt it too cliche and "safe". Then I got the idea of a MASSIVE woman. Just angry as fuck, murderous visage, tall, wide, burly, Big Bertha type of clown...and then paired her off with a tiny pipsqueak on her shoulder. A terrifying pair for sure. I was later contacted by Freddy to see how I felt about using washes (since it was an ink-only round) and laughed at how much we were on the same page. I wanted to try one more but just couldn't make the time.

All in all, this was my most challenging work in SBFC to date and probably in my own work for a while now. I'm pleased with my stuff and Freddy's entry will knock your socks off and back onto your hands like some sweaty make-shift kitten mittens.

Enjoi.
