Many of you know I do not smoke marijuana. Many of you also do smoke marijuana. And we are still cool. That's what I like about genuine people, we can live different lives and still be chill. Now, if you smoke all day, everyday, every chance you get and every moment in between those chances, we probably don't see each other much lol. The truth is, I don't much care for smoke. Of any kind. Weed, BBQ, cigarettes, incense, fireworks--I really don't like smoke or like to be around it. Even eating at The Smokeshack is a gamble for me because I know I will come home reeking of BBQ smoke. But let's get real--who's gonna turn down that mac-n-cheese!?

In any event, here is where my social and lifestyle inconsistency comes into play...I love animated smoke, like something you'd see in Afro Samurai. I love drawing and painting smoke. And I defnitely love photographing smoke. So although I choose to not be around it often, there are still times where I find myself among the growing number of weed-smokers of the world and when I can, I release my own fire through my shutter. If you smoke and I am around, please do not take offense if I walk away or give myself distance (especially if you smoke cigarettes). Conversely, please don't be offended if I start firing off my camera in your face either. I know, it's contradicting. It is my own personal struggle to understand my simultaneous distaste and appreciation for it all. For now, it is what it is.

In any case, another 4/20 is upon us and in celebration of your freedom to choose, I have decided to share some of my favorite smoke shots here with you all. These are all recent and all shot in Austin, but they are some of my best and I love sharing my best with you all as often as I can. I hope you enjoy them. Smoke responsibly and respect your fellow non-smokers as well as your fellow smokers. Share your greenery and be mindful of other people around you who may not smoke; especially kids and animals. But also, stop smoking cigarettes because they are slowly killing you. My PSA for the day.
